In this edition of "Under the Surface," Stereum's development magazine dedicated to keeping our community informed about the latest advancements, features, and future plans, we are covering a wide range of topics—from our recent Auto Update issue to the upcoming L2 integration and exciting event plans. We'll also share a sneak peek of what we’ve been working on behind the scenes. Let's dive in! 🚀
In version 2.3.2, we introduced a limit of one Stereum window open at a time, which caused the Auto Update window to fail. As a result, users on versions 2.3.2 or 2.3.3 need to manually update to version 2.3.4 to resolve this issue. To fix this, we modified the update process to manage windows more effectively—ensuring the update window can open independently without being blocked by the main app. This resolves the issue and restores seamless auto-updating.

In the last edition of type: entry-hyperlink id: kvGK7fIo8m366eAIvFXUP, we gave you a sneak peek into one of the flagship features of version 2.4.0—the integration of L2 Optimism. This integration not only marks our first step into the Layer 2 space but also represents a significant milestone in making Stereum a comprehensive solution for both scalability and innovation.
With the upcoming release coming closer, we’re excited to share more details on how this integration will work and the benefits it will bring:
To simplify the setup process, we’re introducing two distinct Full Node Presets for two networks Mainnet & Sepolia:
🔹 L2 Only:
Optimized specifically for Layer 2 operations.
Requiring an external connection a L1 node endpoint, which for its first iteration has to be manually set up
🔹 L2 + L1:
Combines both Layer 1 (Ethereum Mainnet) and Layer 2 (Optimism) functionalities.
Ensures seamless communication between L1 and L2, enabling users to leverage the security of Ethereum while benefiting from L2’s scalability.
From there on onwards we want to work out the archive solution for Optimism, expanding the options you have as a user.
We’re excited to introduce Grandine as the latest addition to our selection of six consensus clients for Ethereum node runners. Built in Rust, Grandine is optimized for high performance and low resource usage, handling tens of thousands of validators efficiently. It supports key features like checkpoint sync, pruning, and MEV builder APIs with failover options, making it a powerful choice for both solo stakers and large operators.

The current updates.json
file for client updates is hosted on our website (link). However, maintaining this file has become increasingly complex. We’re considering moving away from this approach towards a more streamlined and user-friendly solution:
Options Under Consideration:
Fetching the latest version directly, making it the user's responsibility to check for updates.
Offering separate update paths for testnets, mainnets, and different network environments.
These changes aim to simplify updates and reduce maintenance overhead. Your feedback is appreciated! 🚀
Both Stereum (stereum.com) and StereumPlus (stereumplus.com) are getting a comprehensive redesign to enhance user experience:
Stereum:
Focuses on simplifying Ethereum node management with a clean and informative layout.
StereumPlus:
Aims for a seamless Web3 infrastructure experience with transparent pricing and enterprise-level hardware.
The redesigns aim to improve navigation, update content, and align the look of both websites to make them more intuitive and visually appealing. Stay tuned for the launch! 🚀
